Your best bet is to take the shuttle bus to the pass and avoid the disappointment of being turned away due to a lack of parking. The parking area at Logan Pass fills early in the day. Get an early start to avoid the worst of the crowds. Make sure you wear appropriate footwear for tramping through snowy and potentially muddy trails. Keep in mind that snow lingers in the meadows around Logan Pass well into the summer season.
Short spur trails lead to the pretty outlet stream and nice areas along the shore to relax and take in the views. The lakeshore is quite scenic with views that extend south to the high cliffs rimming the southern end of the basin. The hike to the lake is accompanies by great views of Mount Brown, Stanton Mountain, Bearhat Peak and Reynolds Mountain. The descent and subsequent ascent deter most parties. as it descends on moderately-steep to steep grades to the lake in 1.25 miles. Beyond the overlook the trail loses almost 800-ft. The hike is one of the most popular outings in Glacier National Park so don’t expect solitude.Įscape most of the crowd by extending the hike to Hidden Lake (6,975-ft.). The crown jewel of Going-to-the-Sun Road is Logan Pass, and this is where the Hidden Lake Trail starts.
Wildflowers and wildlife add to the allure of the hike. The entire journey is accompanied by nonstop views of the high peaks surrounding the Logan Pass area. The first section of the hike is a relatively easy ascent across the alpine meadows above Logan Pass to the scenic Hidden Lake Overlook.
